Hyperacidity
An acid reflux causing irritation and inflammation to the throat and esophagus is generally termed as acidity. When the digestive enzymes in the stomach travel upwards they cause an unpleasant burning sensation and it is this feeling that is referred to as hyperacidity or heart burn.
According to Ayurveda
Ayurveda has described hyperacidity as Amlapitta. Due to the toxic accumulation the metabolism of the fire element (pitta) is disturbed which then leads to disturbance in physiological functions of pitta. This disturbance arise a whole lot of symptoms associated with the normal functioning of the pitta. Following are the symptoms that indicate a rise of pitta:

- Vomiting
- Heartburn
- Stomach and chest pain
- Sour taste in mouth
- Flatulence

Causes of hyperacidity according to Ayurveda
- Stress
- Overeating
- Eating food when not hungry or other eating disorder
- Sedentary lifestyle
- Day sleep
- Insomnia / sleeping late at night
- Over intake of alcohol/tea/caffeine/fizzy drinks and other stimulants
- Increased intake of sour/salty/spicy tastes
- Excessive intake of fermented food like breads, yogurt
- Excessive intake of bakery products
- Over indulgence in meat and sea food
