Diabetes is defined as increased blood glucose level due to insufficient insulin production, or disturbed mechanism of insulin or both together. It is a chronic metabolic disorder with multiple adverse effects on eyes, kidneys, pancreas, digestive system, etc.

Ayurveda describes 20 types of diabetes (termed as prameha in Sanskrit). Out of the 20, last 4 types can be correlated to the condition termed as diabetes mellitus and diabetes incipidus by modern science. While the others can be correlated to the pre-diabetic or high risk zone of diabetes.

Modern medicine provides with management of the disorder with external help of insulin injections or hypoglycemic drugs, which is very helpful to control the blood sugar levels, however does not do much to treat the disease from its roots. Diet and lifestyle recommendation:

Diabetes is lifestyle associated disorder. According to Ayurveda the first line of treatment to any disease is to rule out and stop the influence of causative factors. This helps to stop the break the pathology even more effectively.

Food stuff which aggravates diabetes are slowly replaced which helps to control the glucose levels and disease. Over consumption of bakery products like bread, yogurt, biscuits, etc, fermented food, overindulgence of meat and sea food, etc aggravates the condition. Whereas food stuffs like barley, mung, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower etc are helpful in diabetic condition.

Panchakarma/Detox:

Medicated emesis, Medicated purgation or Herbal enemas are suggested after consultation, considering the stage of the disease.
