Chronic Backache
Backache refers to the pain in the upper, middle or lower, the entire back. Multiple reasons are responsible for this. Back pain which last for longer durations (more than 3-6 months) of time is considered as chronic backache.
This pain can be intermittent and may vary according to where it is felt (bone, nerve and muscle pain). Its intensity varies from mild to severe. Many a times even after the main cause is treated the pain may persist.
Causes for Backache according to Ayurveda:
According to Ayurveda unhealthy food habits, sedentary lifestyle and improper postural habits are mainly responsible for backache.
Usually the causes of backache are not by any serious damage or disease but just by minor strains, sprains or little injuries or irritated nerves. These minor causes can be aggravated by the daily activities which may include:
- Improper sitting and standing postures for longer duration of time
- Lifting, carrying, pulling heavy objects
- Overstretching
- Over exercising for instance during sports etc.
- Injury
Other factors of chronic backache include:
- Spinal Disc bulge,
- Spinal Disc prolapse,
- Lumbar spondylosis
- Long term acidity
- Overweight (Obese)
- Chronic stress or depression
- Excessive Smoking, Alcohol and other drugs
Signs and Symptoms of Backpain:
- Persistent aching and stiffening of the back muscles
- Localized pain in upper, middle or lower back after lifting heavy objects
- Tingling numbness, Radiating pain from back to the thigh ,knee, calf or toes on either or both sides
- Excessive pain and stiffness after sitting or standing for short durations too.
